Hi, I'm Barb, owner and teacher at Small Friends Learning , a quality, private, Early Childhood Program.
I am an Eary Childhood Educator who is passionate about emerging literacy, process art, play based linquiry and creaqting fun and enjoying learning experiences in my classroom. I have worked in the Early Childhood Educator for over 20 years . I know children and what makes them thrrive and grow inside and out. I hold a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education with a Minor in Family Social Sciences from the University of Minnesota. I hold a current Pre-K teaching license from the State of Minnesota.
I am devoted to the emotional, social, and intellectual needs of children. When you place your child in my program, my goal and mission is to provide your child with the best possible environment. I am dedicated to providing your child with a stimulating atmosphere that is balanced to meet your child’s emotional, social, intellectual, and physical needs during the time he/she spends with me. My aim is to provide your child with a happy place to learn, grow, make friends, and consider their second home.
We as Early Childhood Educators need to ask ourselves, what can we do to spark such excitement, wonder, and joy in our children that they develop that love of learning and are actually sad when they cannot go to school. To create such an environment that makes school children's happy place. If my children walk away with anything, I hope they hold that love of learning!
I believe that young children learn best when they are directly involved in “hands on” experiences. Children need to explore their world through their senses and so I provide experiences that provoke learning by using their sense of touch, sight, hearing, smelling, and tasting. Children learn by doing and so I provide fun activities to enhance active learning.
I plan my curriculum around the needs, interests and developmental needs of the children in my care. I believe children are naturally curious and provide a hands on environment that is rich in materials and opportunities to expand learning. I When a child is interested in something, learning becomes something that is fun and engaging. They begin to develop early on, lifelong learning skills that will make them successful throughout a lifetime.
I provide both structured and unstructured activities each day. I strive to provide children with opportunities to think creatively so they can be successful in a complex and ever-changing world. Children are naturally enthusiastic learners and learn best when they have the chance to make their own choices in activities. When they are given the opportunity to initiate their own learning, it becomes naturally fun and engaging to learn.
I seek to guide children from needing assistance with a task to accomplishing a task independently by providing experiences that are challenging yet attainable for every child.
I believe that each child has a talent and strength in some skill and I seek to find and emphasize that to build confidence. I believe that above all, a child needs to feel loved, nurtured, and accepted for the gift they are.
